Are you struggling with dental anxiety? Finally! You can now comfortably sit on the dental chair and receive the care you need with sedation dentistry. At StarBrite Dental, we use oral conscious sedation to help patients undergo dental procedures without feeling anxious.
If you have mild to moderate dental anxiety, you can benefit from oral sedation from Dr. Munira Lokhandwala. This sedation involves taking a prescription pill an hour or so before your appointment. Given the level of anxiety, your dentist can control the sedation effect by varying the dosage. However, despite the level of sedation, you need an adult to escort you in and out of the dental clinic for your safety.
Once you have taken the pill, it’s absorbed into your bloodstream. When the sedation effects kick in, you will feel dizzy and relaxed to the point of falling asleep. However, you remain conscious and can be roused to respond to commands. After the procedure, you may experience “anterograde amnesia,” where you remember little or nothing about your treatment. This makes oral sedation ideal for overly anxious patients or when undergoing lengthy and invasive procedures like dental implantology.
Because of convenience, most patients are increasingly being receptive to oral sedation. The treatment doesn’t require any preparation. You only need the prescription pill and someone to accompany you to our dental office. The other benefits of oral sedation include:
Sedation dentistry isn’t performed by just any dentist. Dental professionals need certification before administering any form of sedation. Dr. Lokhandwala is fully certified and trained to administer sedation dentistry for your comfort and safety.
